Star Trek (2009)
Dir: J.J. Abrams / DP: Daniel Mindel
Personal Comment: See this shot? Looks like one of a hundred, if not a thousand, just like it in this movie. But really look at it. Look at the way you can see the support structure peeking out in the debris of the other ship. Look at how the crewmember in space is perfectly crossing the sun for just an instant. Some artist, somewhere, spent weeks on this shot, tweaking it, making the lens flares arc across the screen just so, making the colors and composition just right. This one frame, perfectly rendered, is itself a work of art, and it is but a moment in a movie composed of hundred of thousand of other single frames. These frames, put together, sped in front of a light 24 times per second, have the power to move people, to make them feel excited, happy, sad, angry. If you don’t believe in movies, in the incredible transformative and communicative powers of film, then I just have no idea what to say to you. I believe in movies.

Amen.
Vulcan was not a fun place to be on that day… in that reality.
